Heraklion – Crete

Modern Heraklion keeps the tradition of one of the most attractive cities in the Mediterranean alive! It covers and satisfies all tastes and requirements a visitor may have.

In its nearly 3,000 years of existence, Heraklion has a turbulent history. It is still unclear exactly when the low hill, nowadays the center of the city of Heraklion, was first inhabited. Besides, the main urban center in ancient times was Knossos.

As for the name Heraklion, it probably comes from Idaios Hercules, the mythical father of the Olympic Games.

Βeing in the limelight as one of the most popular summer destinations annually, the beautiful island of Crete, and especially Heraklion, is once again displayed on international travel sites.
